Michigan Curriculum Frameworks
Northridge Academy uses the Michigan Curriculum Framework to align math and English language arts with the Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCE). We have begun embedding Common Core Standard. Our focus is to make sure every child can read, write, and perform math operations proficiently at grade level. To accomplish this goal, Northridge Academy has implemented Response to Intervention (RTI) in grades K-8. Students are grouped (Tiered) in reading and math based on ability level. Then they are assessed quarterly to determine the next level of placement.
Grades K-8 use Success For All (SFA). This is a research-based program that groups students based upon their ability level. SFA yields positive results. It gives our students the opportunity to read all genres of literature. In addition students are assessed every eight weeks and regrouped based upon assessment results. The goal of SFA is for all students to perform at or above grade level.
Our middle-school language arts program is divided into two classes: literature and writing/grammar. These two classes function in a very "close-knit" fashion to help our students achieve mastery in reading and writing.Northridge Academy provides math instruction with SRA Real Math, a thoroughly field-tested program. SRA Real Math is designed to help students gain confidence in math fundamentals, boost skills in problem areas and prepare for standardized tests. For those students who are found to be struggling with foundational concepts, Northridge Academy's staff bridges the gap of learning by providing intensive intervention with our Connecting Math Concepts program.
With concentrated professional development and the use of various data assessment tools, teachers are able to evaluate and maintain an accurate tracking method of each child's progress where we can confidently say No Child is Left Behind at Northridge Academy.
