Michigan Curriculum Frameworks
Northridge Academy uses the Michigan Curriculum Framework to align math and English language arts with the Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCE). Our focus is to make sure every child can read and write proficiently at grade level. To accomplish this goal, Northridge Academy has implemented Direct Instruction in grades K-3. Direct Instruction is a nationally recognized research-based instructional program. Students are grouped according to their reading level and instruction is structured and interactive. This reading program enables teachers to teach the foundational principles of becoming a good reader and developing reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.
Our grades 4-6 utilize Harcourt Brace, another research-based program that enables teachers to build upon the skills acquired in grades K-3 and introduces students to various parts of genre and literature.
Focus on Math Our middle-school language arts program is divided into two classes: literature and writing/grammar. These two classes function in a very "close-knit" fashion to help our students achieve mastery in reading and writing.Northridge Academy provides math instruction with SRA Real Math, a thoroughly field-tested program. SRA Real Math is designed to help students gain confidence in math fundamentals, boost skills in problem areas and prepare for standardized tests. For those students who are found to be struggling with foundational concepts, Northridge Academy's staff bridges the gap of learning by providing intensive intervention with our Connecting Math Concepts program.
With concentrated professional development and the use of various data assessment tools, teachers are able to evaluate and maintain an accurate tracking method of each child's progress where we can confidently say No Child is Left Behind at Northridge Academy.
